Villanova Wildcats

Visiting St. John's (40-11, 19-6 Big East) collected nine extra-base hits and defeated Villanova (27-25, 11-14 Big East) by a 16-2 count on Thursday at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The Wildcats magic number to clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament remains at two.

It was a productive night for the men's track team at the Tupp Invite at Swarthmore College on Tuesday, May 13. Three athletes posted NCAA qualifying marks and senior Bobby Curtis improved on his time in the 1,500m and now holds the fourth fastest time in the country for a collegiate athlete.

On Tuesday, May 13 Koons raced to a time of 4:13.23, a personal best by five seconds in the Tupp Invite at Swarthmore College. Koons' time is the second fastest time for a collegiate in the nation this season. She qualified for the Olympic trials `B' standard and sits at 22nd overall on the list. The top 30 athletes will compete in the Olympic trials.

In its final regular season non-conference game, Villanova (27-24) was defeated 14-8 by Temple (24-26) on Tuesday afternoon at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The Wildcats ended a seven-game home winning streak and were defeated for only the fifth time at home this season.

Senior Bill Hoffman (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has been named to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll and is also the Philadelphia Big Five Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today. Hoffman tossed an eight-hit complete game to pitch Villanova to a crucial 2-1 victory over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.
