The UNLV men's and women's swimming team posted several impressive performances on the first day of action at the Cougar Classic Fall Invitational in Houston. Leading the way was the No. 24 Rebel men's squad, who posted a total of five first-place finishes on the day, winning everything but the single diving event.
Opposing defenses couldn't manage to stop honors candidate Ryan Wolfe for the last four years while playing wide receiver at UNLV but a broken foot could. The school announced Friday that Wolfe (Santa Clarita, CA/Hart HS), who appeared in all 47 of his previous games as a Rebel, will not be able to play his senior-season finale on Nov. 28 vs. San Diego State after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his left foot while returning punts during Wednesday's practice.
After defeating Division-II Pittsburg State (91-52) on Opening Night and Nevada, Reno (88-75) on Wednesday (both games at the Thomas & Mack Center), the UNLV men's basketball team (2-0) will host Southern Illinois (2-0) on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. The game, which will not be televised, is part of the inaugural Mountain West Conference - Missouri Valley Conference Challenge (the agreement between the two conferences is for four years). The radio call will be handled by Jon Sandler and Robert Smith on ESPN Radio 1100 AM in Las Vegas. The game will also be available via audio streaming and gametracker at UNLVRebels.com. The first 1,500 kids will receive free UNLV wristbands and fans are also asked to bring canned food items to the game to support Three Square.
