Oregon State's record-setting running back Jacquizz Rodgers has been named the Sporting News' 2008 National Freshman of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

Calvin Haynes had a career-high 20 points and Josh Tarver hit two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to help Oregon State to a 71-67 win over Seattle Pacific on Tuesday.

 The Oregon State Beavers (3-4, 0-1 Pac-10) head to Reno, Nev., on Thursday to take part in the Reno Tournament of Champions that runs all day at the Reno Downtown Convention Center. Wrestling begins at 9:00 a.m. with the finals taking place at 6:00 p.m.

CORVALLIS -- While the big story of the day was the dominating Oregon State win over Washington, the team that beat USC, and the loss by that USC team on Saturday at the hands of Stanford, all of that almost certainly fell by the wayside upon retrospect for Damola Adeniji. Because the Beavers’ starting wide receiver asked a life changing question on Saturday. And she said Yes.
