Cheers & Jeers: Batesole's Cinderella run, NL's poor interleague showing

Cheers
•To former Oral Roberts baseball star Mike Batesole, who coached Fresno State to the College World Series title, capping the greatest Cinderella story in NCAA championship history.

•To Chris Paul's impending contract extension with the Hornets. Good for George Shinn and good for New Orleans and good for Paul to stick with the franchise that bears his face.

•To Stillwater's Matt Holliday, who despite a miserable season for the Colorado Rockies is batting .337 and has raised his career average to .321. Only 50 hitters in major-league history have hit higher.

•10. Oklahoma: Chattanooga, at Washington, Cincinnati, TCU. No superpowers, but only one rum-dum.

•9. West Virginia: Villanova, at East Carolina, at Colorado, Marshall, Auburn. Some easy games, but some rousers, too.

Sooner indicted in El Reno prison assault

A stint behind bars apparently wasn't enough to keep former University of Oklahoma football standout Adrian Cooper out of trouble.

Cooper, 40, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Oklahoma City on a felony assault charge.

Cooper is accused of beating up another inmate Jan. 11 at the federal prison in El Reno, leaving the other man with serious injuries, according to court papers.

Cooper was sentenced in September 2006 to more than six years in prison for bilking clients out of nearly $1 million while he was a stockbroker.

Cooper was a tight end at OU who went on to spend six seasons in the National Football League.
