Northwestern Wildcats

Northwestern got the dual meet portion of its 2009-10 schedule off to a strong start, posting a perfect 4-0 record at the Stanford Duals. The Wildcats notched a pair of perfect bouts, defeating both Detroit-Mercy and Cal Tech 27-0 while also toppling host Stanford 18-9 and finishing the day with a 23-4 decision over UC San Diego.

Northwestern senior guard/forward Jeff Ryan (pictured) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Wildcats' season-opening contest against Northern Illinois Friday night and will miss the remainder of the 2009-10 season.

Northwestern put together an impressive showing against top-ranked and undefeated Penn State, but the two-time defending champion Nittany Lions showed why they are the top team in the country, outlasting the Wildcats 25-20, 25-14, 25-20 at Rec Hall. Naomi Johnson led the way for Northwestern with a team-high 11 kills on the night.

It's been a dizzying season for Northwestern's hoops team. And we're only one game in. Two season-ending injuries to two seniors, including the team's unquestioned leader, have cast quite the question mark over all the preseason plans.

Heck of a day in Big Ten land and across the nation. A fantastic game in Columbus, a beautiful beatdown of SC and, of course, a Wildcat Win over the hated Illini.

NU holds on to beat Illinois 21-16. Nice to win a close one again after a lot of earlier ones this year went against us ... still, we should have had this game put away by halftime. HIRE A SPECIAL TEAMS COACH ASAP!!! We obviously need that waaaay more than a superbacks coach
