East Carolina even knew it was coming, and the Pirates couldn't stop it.

Freshman Erik Highsmith nabbed six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown in UNC's 31-17 win over visiting East Carolina. For the first time since 1997, the Heels are off to a 3-0 start.

The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team has grabbed the No. 4 spot in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, the IWLCA announced on Monday evening. The Tar Heels, who went 16-5 and reached the NCAA championship game before losing to five-time defending champ Northwestern, return 10 of 12 starters from last year's squad, including national player of the year candidate Jenn Russell, 2009 national goalkeeper of the year Logan Ripley and All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers Megan Bosica and Kristen Taylor.

The second-annual First Pitch Dinner will be held this Saturday, February 13, at the Carolina Club on UNC's campus. The event was rescheduled to this Saturday from Jan. 30, 2010 due to inclement weather. The event will open at 6:30 p.m. with a social and silent auction followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m

The North Carolina field hockey and women's soccer teams celebrated their 2009 national titles on Friday with a visit to the Governor's Mansion. Bev Perdue, North Carolina's first female governor, hosted a reception for the teams and spoke to the student-athlete and coaches about the impact they can - and do - have on children, and girls in particular.
