Saints finally see the light....

Finally after years and years of going into the draft with nothing but defensive needs and always selecting nothing but offensive help, something is stirring at Airline Drive facility. First a trade for for LB Jonathon Vilma from the Jets for a 4th round pick next year is a steal, he steps in immediately and plays in the middle where he is accustomed to. Next they sign CB Randall Gay of the Pats to play opposite of Mike McKenzie, allowing Jason David to be used in nickel and dime packages where he is comfortable. Next they aquire DE Bobby McCrae for the Jags, which allows them to slide Charles grant to DT and an instant upgrade in the d-line. They are also at present time speaking to S Marion McCree of the Chargers which would complete the secondary and with the 10th pick of the NFL draft LB Keith Rivers of USC completes the defense. The offense which led the league the past two seasons in fewest sacks and yardage has Duece McAllister back with Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Pierre Thomas, Eric Johnson and hopefull an emerging Robert meecham , last years first round pick. With the 42nd pick in the draft they can go in any direction they want. Do not forget as well, we are still talking to WR Randy Moss, Justin McCaerins, Marion Barber, Julius Jones as well as a few others. Finally things may be looking up.

You make a great argument for the Saints. It was tough to watch the team play last season after all the success the year before. The NFC South is ready to be won by them with the Falcons in the cellar for another year, Jeff Garcia isn't getting any younger in Tampa, and the Panthers are one hit away from losing Delhomme. Is Deuce and his health still a question mark? Why would the Saints be looking for a running back? Would you rather see them pick up a WR?

Mike,

I agree it's awesome to see the Saints making moves in FA to address the D side of the ball. I would love to see Rivers with the #10 pick too. In fact, that is where my mock draft guy has him falling right now (it's going to be updated soon).

I don't know about Grant moving inside as much as it could be for a rotation at DE. Tings are not looking good for the future of McCallister with the team either as Loomis won't commit to commenting on him being back with the team, in fact last I seen he was avoiding the question all together.
