Miami Dolphins Free Agency Grade and Review

Contributor: Sean Fowler, mvn.com/nfl-dolphins

Team Needs: Nearly every position

Key additions: LB Reggie Torbor, OG Justin Smiley, DT Jason Ferguson

Key Losses: LB Zach Thomas (Cowboys), WR Marty Booker (Bears)

Key Free Agents Retained: CB Michael Lehan, S Yeremiah Bell

Free Agency Notes: A new regime has taken over in Miami, and it SHOWS. The triplicate powers of VP Bill Parcells, GM Jeff Ireland and Head Coach Tony Sparano swept through the Dolphins old and talent-deprived roster, cutting 10 players. The moves freed even more salary cap space and shed some dead weight from the team. It hurt losing a franchise veteran like Zach Thomas, but they keys to this offseason was getting the program started. The Dolphins will not truly compete in this decade, so it was as much a favor to Zach as it was to the Dolphins. Guard Justin Smiley is the class of this crop, a big anchor for a line that has struggled and may have been in for a slight dropoff with the departure of O-Line guru Hudson Houck.

Grade: B+

Review of Grade: The Dolphins could have gone for a big splash with the cap space they had. But that's not the way the Parcells Posse rolls. The Dolphins will be built from the ground up. The moves made were foundational...solid backups and special teams players. The Phins will be built through the draft with little splashes in free agency here and there.

So-so cha-cha leaves Taylor in limbo

Jason Taylor looked at the camera and shrugged. What could he do? Skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi (with partner Mark Ballas) had just received her second 30 out of 30 on Monday's Dancing with the Stars, making it impossible for Taylor and partner Edyta Sliwinska to match their fellow finalist's performance.
