Christian Brothers High's Patrick Ligon is extending a CBHS-University of Memphis connection. And a family tie, too. Ligon, a 6-4, 260-pound defensive end, will sign a National Letter of Intent next month to continue his football career at the U of M, where his father, David, played from 1973 to '75.

Tiger Athletic Department Posts a 2.84 GPA in Spring Semester

The University of Memphis athletic department posted a 2.84 GPA among all its student-athletes during the Spring 2009 semester it was announced by Joe Luckey, Director of Athletic Academic Services, Thursday. The 2.84 department GPA marked a fourth straight season the Tigers have posted a department GPA of 2.8 or higher. Memphis had 162 student-athletes post over a 3.0 GPA, with 81 being named to the University's Dean's List and with 21 posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring.

Baseball. Heith Hatfield and Drew Martinez Named Valley League All-Stars

Sophomores-to-be Heith Hatfield and Drew Martinez have had solid summer campaigns in the Valley League, and their talents have been recognized as the duo was named to the Valley League North Division All-Star Team the league announced. Hosted by Hatfield's Woodstock River Bandits, the game will be played on July 12 with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.

W. Volleyball. Space Still Available for Mid-South Volleyball All-Skills Camp

Mid-South Volleyball Team Camp is closed, but space is still available for the 2009 Mid-South Volleyball All-Skills Camp, Head Coach April Jauregui announced today. The camp will be held on July 20-23. Jauregui and her staff will hold the camp in conjunction with the Rhodes College volleyball staff.
