Former University of Houston men's basketball player Sidney Edwards died at his home Tuesday morning following a short illness. He was 58 years old.

With the summer months in full swing, the University of Houston swimming and diving team chose to stay active in the off season, which has been highlighted by Sasha Schwendenwein's performance at the 25th World Student Games.

The University of Houston Athletic Ticket Office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Normal business hours will resume Monday, July 6.

The University of Houston Athletics Department and Cougar Pride announced this week the eighth year of the Houston area "Coaches Road Tour." This year UH Athletics will host two stops in the Houston area; Tuesday, July 28 at Skeeter's Mesquite Grill at 750 Gulfgate Mall (I-45 South and 610) and Wednesday, August 5 at the 5529 Weslayan Skeeter's location.

The University of Houston volleyball team this week announced its 2009 schedule, which will kick off Aug. 28-29 with the Flo Hyman Invitational at the Athletics Alumni Center.
