Florida State has received written notification that a tentative hearing before the NCAA's Division I Committee on Infractions is scheduled for Oct. 18 in Indianapolis.

EARLY CUPCAKES: The Seminoles will be without as many as 10 players off their two-deep roster for the first three games of the season due to their involvement in an academic cheating scandal, prompting FSU to schedule patsies Western Carolina and Chattanooga the first two games. The teams went a combined 3-19 last season, which means FSU had better pass the early test.

The Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award Selection Committee has named Florida State All-American catcher Buster Posey of Leesburg, Ga., as the fifth recipient of the award, which was presented in a national telecast (FCS) on Wednesday evening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

A pair of Florida State freshmen made headlines this week for their contributions on the diamond in their first season donning the Garnet and Gold. Stuart Tapley and Mike McGee earned first team Freshman All-America honors as announced by Rivals.com on Tuesday, July 1. Tapley was named to the first team as a designated hitter while McGee grabbed first team honors as a utility player thanks to his efforts both on the mound and at the plate in 2008.

On Thursday afternoon, the 2008 class finished their first week of summer classes and summer workouts. Battling heat, humidity and rain, the freshmen finished a week of hard running and workouts behind the whistle of strength and conditioning coach Todd Stroud.
