The Nielsen Co. estimated that 106.5 million people watched the New Orleans Saints upset the Indianapolis Colts. That beats the "M-A-S-H" finale, which had 105.97 million viewers.
The oddmakers didn't have a "when pigs fly" category, so they installed the Lions as mere long shots to go all the way next season.
The Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of "M*A*S*H" to become the most-watched program in television history.
And they think the buildup to the Super Bowl is full of hyperbole. It has nothing on the aftermath. No single event causes more people to break their necks in making ridiculous proclamations.
