No. 40-ranked Claire Ilcinkas became the only California women's tennis singles player left standing after the first day of the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships. The other three Golden Bears were eliminated in first round play today at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Ilcinkas defeated Florida's Csilla Borsanyi, 6-3, 6-2 to earn her 34th singles win of the year. She will face No. 10 Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech in a 9 a.m. (Pacific) match Thursday (May 22).

California assistant coach Charmin Smith attended the 10-year reunion of the first WNBA Minnesota Lynx team May 18. Smith played for the Lynx during their inaugural 1999 season.

The Cal campus will be the site of Special Olympics Summer Games where more than 900 athletes will compete in five Olympic-style events June 6-8. Country superstar Collin Raye and world-renowned artist David Garibaldi will kick off the Games when they perform at Haas Pavilion on Friday, June 6 during the Opening Ceremonies.
